After being awarded a scholarship under the China Scholarship Council to pursue studies in the USA as a postdoctoral researcher, Yunkun joined Prof. Menachem Elimelech’s research group in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Yale University in March 2016. His research currently focuses on the development of highly selective membranes for water purification and desalination.

Yunkun received his Ph.D. degree from University of Science and Technology of China, and he is currently an assistant professor in Shandong University. His thesis was mainly focused on membrane-based processes for wastewater treatment and resource recovery. He developed electrochemical membrane bioreactor technologies for sustainable wastewater treatment, energy recovery and in-situ membrane fouling mitigation.

In Prof. Menachem Elimelech’s research group, Yunkun is currently working on fabricating highly selective membranes, by using novel approaches and materials, for water purification and desalination.

Outside of the lab, Yunkun spends time with his family, and enjoys playing ping pong with his labmates.
